How to install iOS 16.5 and iPad 16.5 public beta

Last year’s versions of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 came with a host of great new features — including cute lock screen customization options that edge Reporter Jay Peters named one of the biggest successes of 2022. But Apple isn’t done with iOS 16 yet; Iterative releases have been distributed for testing through the company’s public beta program. Now Apple has released its latest public betas – iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5 – which introduce even more new features such as: B. the ability to ask Siri to start a screen capture.

You can download the latest public betas today – at your own risk, of course. Here’s how to install the beta software on your iPhone or iPad as soon as it’s available for your device.

Before we begin, a word of warning: beta software is inherently unfinished and may contain bugs. While Apple’s public betas are generally fairly stable, you should think carefully before installing them on any device you rely on. They may not include all features that will be included in the final release. Your experience may be different depending on the apps you use. And finally, if you decide to install it, we recommend backing up your device’s data in case things go badly.

When it was first released in September 2022, iOS 16 contained a veritable treasure trove of new features, including the ability to customize your lock screen with new fonts, colors, and widgets. the ability to link your lock screen to your Focus app; ongoing notifications; some major updates to messages, including the ability to edit a text after you’ve sent it; live text for videos; and a host of other features and updates.

More features have been added since the original release, such as: B. End-to-end encrypted iCloud, easier to swipe notifications, support for push notifications in web apps and of course new emojis.

The new version of iPadOS included a redesigned Home app, a new Whiteboard app, support for Passkeys in Safari, and a bunch of interesting new features. However, one of the biggest deals, Stage Manager, which allows apps to be displayed as overlapping windows and allows windows to be dragged and dropped onto other screens, is only available if you have an iPad with an M1 or M2 chip. Unfortunately, Stage Manger turned out not to be the future of multitasking that many were hoping for.

iOS 16 (including all its betas) works on the following devices:

• iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max
• iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max
• iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max
• iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max
• iPhone XS, iPhone XS max
• iPhone X, iPhone XR
• iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus
• iPhone SE (second generation or later)

iPadOS 16 (including all of its betas) works on the following devices:

• iPad Pro (all models)
• iPad Air (third generation and later)
• iPad (fifth generation and higher)
• iPad Mini (fifth generation and higher)

Apple has made it easier than ever to install the public betas of iOS and iPadOS thanks to a new change in iOS 16.4. With a new software update feature, you can now easily change your stable release channel to the beta channel without having to download and install a beta profile—and you can easily unsubscribe, too!

Here’s what to do. First, update to iOS 16.4 or iPadOS 16.4 if you haven’t already:

• Go to Settings > General > Software update.
• You should see the iOS 16.4 or iPadOS 16.4 update there; choose Download and install and follow the instructions.

Once you are up to date:

• Go to Apple’s beta software portal in your device’s Safari browser and sign in with the primary Apple ID you use on the device. If you have already registered, you can log in and choose Getting started.
• If you are signing up for the first time, you must register your Apple ID with Apple’s beta software program. This involves agreeing to a long set of terms and conditions. Did we mention that this was done at your own risk?
• Once you’ve agreed, you’re now done with signing up – your Apple ID essentially becomes your public beta pass, and you don’t need to download profiles like previous versions.
• Optional: However, if you would like more information on the beta program, you can scroll down to read Apple’s information on providing feedback (select iOS or iPadOS in the submenu for more relevant information). Under Getting startedyou can choose Register your iPhone/iPad and you’ll be greeted with a reminder on how to back up your device’s contents to a Mac in case you need to revert to an earlier state.
• Now go back to Settings > General > Software update. You should now see a new one Beta Updates option directly below Automatic updates. Choose Beta Updates, and make sure the correct Apple ID is displayed at the bottom of the screen. If not, tap and select the ID Use a different Apple ID.
• Choose iPadOS 16 public beta under Beta Updates.
• Once this is all done, you can update your software as usual: by going to Settings > General > Software update. You should see the iOS 16 update there; choose Download and install, and follow the instructions from there.

If you don’t have iOS 16.4 installed yet and don’t want to wait or can’t run this update first, the following profile method is still supported by Apple:

• Go to Apple’s beta software portal in your device’s Safari browser and sign in with the primary Apple ID you use on the device. If you have already registered, you can log in and choose Getting started.
• If you are signing up for the first time, you must register your Apple ID with Apple’s beta software program. This involves agreeing to a long set of terms and conditions. Did we mention that this was done at your own risk?
• Once you agree, scroll down to read Apple’s information on providing feedback (select iOS or iPadOS in the submenu for more relevant information). Under Getting startedchoose Register your iPhone/iPad and you’ll be greeted with a reminder on how to back up your device’s contents to a Mac in case you need to revert to an earlier state.
• Keep scrolling down until you find a button that says Download profile, then tap it. This displays a warning stating that the website is attempting to download a configuration profile. Choose Allow. You will get a popup window telling you that you can set the new profile of Ideas apartment
• open that Ideas apartment A new section called Profile downloaded should be added at the top. Select it and you will have access to download the beta software.
• Choose To install in the upper right corner. You’ll have to re-enter your password and agree to the usual very lengthy consent by tapping it To install one more time.
• You may need to restart your phone for the profile to activate.
• Once this is all done, you can update your software as usual: by going to Settings > General > Software update. You should see the iOS 16 update there; choose Download and install, and follow the instructions from there.
