This guide explains how to get the W-870 shotgun early so you don’t have to wait to hit the dealer before upgrading your arsenal.

Where to find the W-870 shotgun

You can find the W-870 shotgun early in your journey with the Resident Evil 4 remake. It is located in the largest house in the village, which is full of enemies that you will encounter right at the beginning of the story. This is the first major confrontation in the game, and you can pick up the W-870 shotgun in the middle to make things a little easier.

See above for a map reference for the location of the W-870 shotgun. You can enter the house through the front door, but the intended entrance is the window on the left. Shoot through it and move the bookshelf inside to prevent enemies from following you for a while. The weapon is stored in a picture frame at the top of the stairs. You get five shotgun shells to start with, but you can pick up a few more on the table on landing.

This shotgun is an incredibly powerful weapon, but you’ll want to pick it up when you’re facing powerful enemies. It can help you clear the village and probably even kill the mini-boss that’s attacking you there. However, we found it to be more useful in the areas after the village, as some really big and nasty enemies will start hitting you very quickly after that.

More and more shotgun shells will appear after you pick up this gun, and it will stay in your inventory forever unless you sell it. We recommend upgrading it around the Chapter 4 mark as it’s way better than anything you can get in the chapters up to this point. From there, however, you should update it at the retailer if you plan to keep using it.
