How to get a captain’s log in Sea of Thieves

The Captain’s Log is a valuable item in Sea of Thieves, and you can add it to your custom ship to record the many adventures you experience alongside your crew. The book will continue to add more information about everything you and your crew do during a session, but many players will be on the hunt for these valuable items. Here’s what you need to know about how to get a captain’s log in Sea of Thieves.
Where can I get a captain’s log?
The Captain’s Log is automatically added to every purchased ship in Sea of Thieves. You must purchase a ship at the start of a session, and it is available for the captain to review on the boat’s captain’s table. Then you can pick it up and read at leisure to explore the many activities you’ve been through as a crew.

While these are everyday items for a captain, the captain’s log is a valuable item for other players if they can defeat your ship. Anytime another player sinks your ship, they can find the logbook in the wreck and steal it from you, much like any loot they float in the sea. If another player steals your Captain’s Log, they’ll make their way to Reaper’s Hideout and sell it. The amount of money a player earns depends on the level of the Captain’s Log.
These are the gold prices another player will receive for selling your Commander’s Log based on their level. The days reflected in these prices are based on Sea of Thieves days, not actual days.
- Notable (0 to 6 days old): 300 gold
- Reached (7 to 14 days old): 2,500 gold
- Notable (15 to 19 days old): 10,000 gold
- Exceptional (20 or more days old): 25,000
We recommend being careful if you have been sailing a customized ship for a long time, as you are likely to become a target for other players.
