Core Keeper challenges players to survive in a fantastic underground world where danger can lurk behind every degradable wall. Of the ever-present dangers in the title, bosses like Glurch will test players’ skills.
Glurch is usually the first boss players encounter, as he appears in a slime arena just before it starts. This boss has only one attack: a leap that destroys everything it lands on – either walls or players. The slime that covers the ground in the arena poses a notable hazard as it slows players’ movement speed to around 50% when walking on it.
These two make a dangerous combination: players get stuck in the slime, which is an easy target for Glurch.
To defeat Glurch, preparation is key. Players cannot enter the arena without pulling the boss’s aggro, so it’s important to mitigate the arena’s danger before entering. Cooking in Core Keeper can help – a Spicy Beet Salad with Glow Tulip and Bomb Pepper provides a movement speed buff for a minute, as well as +4 Glow. This can mitigate most of the Slime Floor debuff enough to allow Glurch’s attacks to be dodged. The glow helps players see the arena and avoid the slime tiles.
Make sure all players joining the boss fight have a salad along with HP recovery items, and bronze armor and weapons should be enough to ensure players can survive the attacks. If you’re playing solo, the slingshot can become useful, although you should note that it offers about half the damage per second of the bronze sword. Once Glurch is at 1/3 HP, he will pause for a moment and begin pulsing to let players know he is angry.
Once this occurs, all players with melee weapons should lunge at the boss to try and prevent his final stage. If that fails, note that jump attack animations will speed up much faster and threaten a wipe. If all players die, Glurch will be restored to full HP. After defeating Glurch, a large chest containing a unique item for summoning the first NPC will drop.
