First, some prep work. We do not recommend summoning other players for this fight, as you need to be able to ride your horse. Borealis jumps from one end of the arena to the other, and Torrent lets you get through much of the icy breath it shoots your way. We also recommend having a max or near max high tier Ashes summon. Mimic Tear, Nightmaiden and Swordstress Puppets, or Bloodhound Knight Floh work well – Especially the Mimic Tear has the ability to drink a potion when it’s almost empty. Unfortunately, the other summoners don’t have enough health to survive multiple frost attacks.

Climb off the Site of Grace and go down to the lake. Stop when you can summon your Ash and power it up with whatever spells or spells work for you. Borealis can be affected by Bleed and Scarlet Rot, but you can also just enchant your weapon with fire or use fire magic. When you’re ready, proceed to the frozen lake.

Stay on your horse

The goal is to stay on your horse as much as possible. Loop around Borealis and wait for the opportunity to charge in and get some hits. Good windows of chance include when it spews mist along the ground, when it stomps, and when it focuses on your Ashes summon. If you see Borealis pointing it towards the sky, you need to dash away – it will create a small icy AoE followed by a large AoE. This attack alone is enough to not only knock you out of the Torrent, but also kill you in the process.

You can’t do multiple frost hits. Even with high Strength, you accumulate Frostbite too quickly to survive. Sneak in and out of Borealis’s attack range, score two or three hits, then dash away to see what it does next. A good talisman to equip for this tactic is Lance Talisman, which improves your attacks while riding Torrent. How to defeat Borealis the Freezing Fog in Elden Ring
