The method of catching exotic aberrant fish that you will use most often is fishing. All choppy water fishing spots have a chance of catching you an exotic aberrant fish. However, some have light shining above them. Fishing these gives you a better chance of catching an exotic aberrant fish. If you’re trying to catch as many exotic fish as possible, look for these glowing fishing spots and you’ll get the best results.

How to catch Exotic Aberrant Fish with the Atrophy ability

Once you find the Necklace Relic and return it to The Collector as part of Dredge’s main quest, you’ll get the Atrophy ability. This is a great power to use at any point in your journey to bring any nearby fish to the surface and float around you. From there you can pick and choose these fish, many of which could be exotic variant varieties. We’ve found this ability to work best over glowing fishing spots, but it will spawn exotic, aberrant fish pretty much anywhere.

A word of caution when using the Atrophy ability. Once you’ve used it, your sanity will sink, putting you in danger of being attacked by all sorts of cosmic horrors. Try to use Atrophy near a dock so you don’t get caught out with low Sanity.
