Get the gramophone and the vinyl record

When you start Origins, your first steps to crafting the Ice Stick involve grabbing a shovel, earning points, and collecting the Gramophone and Vinyl Record. You can snag one of two shovels from the spawn room, but others will appear in random locations around the map if your teammates get them first. The gramophone is in the dig site on the floor below Pack-a-Punch. The record has three locations where it can spawn:

When you have the gramophone and the vinyl record, place them on the table in the dig site and the path to the staff room on the ground floor will open. When it’s done, take the gramophone.

Now it’s time to start collecting the Ice Record, Ice Crystal and Ice Staff parts. First, the record can be found in the fuel station next to Generator 2. Here are the three places he can be:

Once you have the record, head to the tunnel intended for the ice staff behind the church. It’s across from the Generator 6 lot. Go downstairs and place the Gramophone to create a portal to The Crazy Place. Inside rises a blue pedestal where you can get the Ice Crystal. When you’re done, return to the main map.

To get the Ice Staff pieces you need to interact with dig sites that appear randomly on the map if you have a shovel when it’s snowing. The weather can change to clear, rainy or mixed between rounds and it can take several rounds to get back to snow. So take advantage of the snow loop if you have it. It doesn’t matter what part of the map you are on, but the top part spawns most often in the Church area, the middle around the locations of Generators 4 and 5, and the bottom in the no man’s land between Generators 2 and 3.

When you have all three staff pieces, it’s time to build the ice staff. Go to the end of the dig site and interact with the blue altar.

How to update the ice stick in Origins

If you have the Ice Staff, it has a fairly basic frosty blast that’s a little underwhelming for the damage it deals. The shot spreads and can hit multiple enemies, but in this base form we personally recommend the other staves. With that in mind, consider upgrading it to its much more powerful form, Ull’s Arrow.

Return to The Crazy Place and you’ll see a row of tiles above the teleporter location. There is also a blue stone that shows a specific symbol. You need to compare this to the table below and shoot the correct tile symbol in order. Each game has a random order.

If you screw up, you have to start over, but aren’t forced to advance a lap or face another penalty. If you’re playing with teammates, have them run around the last zombie to reduce stress while you’re doing this. In solo mode, you can pause while looking at the symbols and take a look at which one you should hit. When all the icons are flipped, you will hear Samantha speak and you can proceed to the next step.

Now there are three tombstones on the map with a white glow that you need to freeze with the ice staff and then shoot with a bullet based weapon (not a ray gun) after that glow is gone. They are located at the following locations:

When all three tombstones are destroyed, you will hear Samantha again. Return to the bottom of the dig site and there will be a blue orb floating beneath the rings above the staff altars. You need to go around and flip the switches on the consoles here so all the rings have blue lights. Shoot the ball with the ice stick and it will fly into the ceiling after a few seconds.

Now return to The Crazy Place and place the ice stick on the pedestal from which you got the ice crystal earlier. You’ll need a decent secondary weapon, perks, and a zombie shield to protect yourself here while killing zombies to charge up the staff. When the personnel inventory appears, you are done. Just be careful not to get stuck with the changing walls here.

If you have the upgraded Ice Staff, you can charge its shot to send out a blast of ice that freezes enemies and is pretty deadly against tankers. This form of Ice Staff is much better and more comparable in utility to the other staffs. Using the d-pad also allows you to flip your staff, fire a shot at downed teammates and instantly revive them from afar.
