How to beat the Regal Ancestor Spirit boss in Elden Ring

While there are many fearsome bosses in the main story of Elden Ring, there are some that are optional; Some of these enemies require you to meet certain criteria before facing them. One of these bosses is the Royal Ancestral Spirit, located in Nokron, Eternal City. However, you cannot fight it right away. How to find and defeat the royal ancestral spirit.

find the boss

Before you can take on this boss, you must first defeat Starscourge Radahn, which will allow you Access to Nokron, Eternal City. As you move through the city you will fight Mimic tear before you arrive at a bridge. At the end of this bridge there is a field with six scattered lanterns that you must light in order to fight the boss. We’ve marked the location of each lantern on the map below with a marker representing a person walking.

Once you’ve lit all six flames, head to the Hallowhorn Grounds shown above in the northeast area of the map. You will see a large skeleton of a deer glowing. Interact with it and you will be taken to a cave. You will spawn next to a stake from Marika, and in front of you is a fog gate that leads to the boss.

The fight

The Regal Ancestor Spirit is a fairly straightforward fight. It has a fairly varied moveset, but most are easy to avoid. We’ve listed the bosses’ moves below and how you should respond to them:

  • Bounce in the Air: The ghost will hop in the air, perform two leaps in the air, and then pause briefly before attempting to land on you. If you roll forward just as the ghost starts to come down on you, this attack shouldn’t hit you thanks to your throw’s invincibility frames.
  • Breathe Magic: The spirit will spit magic onto the battlefield. The boss usually performs this attack on the ground, but can also perform it while hovering in the air. Either way, you can easily escape from this attack. Note, however, that the magic lasts for a few seconds once it hits the ground. You’ll take damage if you touch it, so be careful not to roll through or jump over it when you get close to the ghost.
  • Attack: If you are far away, the ghost can attack you. If you roll forward as the boss gets closer, roll right through this attack without scratching.
  • Three-hit combo: The ghost will typically perform one of two three-hit combos. It may attempt to hit you with its antlers three times in a row, or it may attempt two strikes with its antlers followed by a stomp. All of these moves can be avoided by rolling towards the boss.
  • Stomp/Horse Kick: The boss will sometimes perform the stomp without any preceding movement. When this happens, just roll to avoid damage. If you’re behind the boss, he’ll try to kick you like a horse instead of stomping, which can be avoided by rolling away from him.
  • Charged Antler Strike: Occasionally the ghost will glow white when attacking. This means it will deliver a charged attack. Luckily, like most of his other attacks, you can dodge his boosted Antler Smash by rolling.
  • Three Stomps: The ghost will glow white, just stand on its hind legs, then jump up before attempting to stomp on you. This happens three times in a row. Just roll away when the ghost starts coming down on you.
  • Goat Roll: The Ghost isn’t a goat, but it does occasionally roll in a manner similar to the goats found throughout The Lands Between. It glows white, curls up, and then rolls toward you. Do not roll sideways or backwards when approaching. Instead, roll forward and slightly left or right, and you’ll avoid damage thanks to your invincibility frames.
  • Teleport: If the ghost looks like it’s shrinking and about to die, it’s because it’s about to teleport. It will fall to the ground, disappear, and then reappear elsewhere in the arena.
  • Heal: The ghost creates an AOE energy field around itself and heals itself very quickly. This move can heal up to half of the boss’s total HP. This is the ghost’s most annoying ability, and the worst part is that there’s no way to stop the boss from healing. Don’t try to outperform his healing; it heals way too fast and the AOE field will hurt you too. The best counter to this move is to kill the boss before he can heal.

Given how annoying the heal ability can be, you’ll need to be able to do some serious damage to win this fight. We recommend waiting until you’re around level 70 or so with this boss. We defeated the boss at level 70 with a strength-based character equipped with a +8 greatsword.

Melee builds should focus on going through all of the Royal Spirit’s melee moves and trying to land a hit or two after each of them. Don’t be afraid to be a little aggressive during this fight as the boss doesn’t seem to have any one hit kill moves, meaning you can afford to take a hit here and there. Don’t be discouraged if it heals; Just keep dodging and hitting back, and it should go down within about five minutes. Ranged attackers can fire off their preferred projectile, but be advised that the boss’ high speed could make it a difficult target to hit.

Once it goes down, you get the Memory of the royal ancestorwhich you can give to Enia to get valuable equipment. How to beat the Regal Ancestor Spirit boss in Elden Ring
