How the Allianz Stadium transformed from a concert hall to a soccer field in two days

As football teams prepare for the upcoming season, the ever-popular Allianz Stadium is more than ready to handle the heavy workload it will face in the coming months.

Having had a busy summer of concerts and festivals, Allianz Stadium incredibly took just two days to dismantle and convert back into a football stadium.

The stadium is home to Sydney FC, Sydney Roosters and NSW Waratahs and is used throughout the winter months with heavy foot traffic on the pitch.

So should footy fans worry about the grass being torn up and ruined and their team having to play on a pitch that is in poor condition?

“No, not at all,” Venues NSW Stephen Saunders told 7NEWS.

“The field is in really good shape, especially for Rugby Sevens this weekend.

“We use a great product, a ready-to-play pitch.”

Allianz Stadium grass is sourced from Evergreen Turf Farm in Pitt Town and is scientifically cultivated to the same condition as the turf used at the stadium.

Graeme Colless of Evergreen Turf said the turf is grown on the farm and then once ready is laid out in the stadiums ready to be played on.

“They’re checking that we’re fertilizing the same, mowing the same system, watering the same system,” Colless said.

“You can put it (the turf) down today and play on it the next day.”

Evergreen Turf supplies turf to stadiums around the world and has even installed turf on the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

Within nine months, a full sand field is converted into a full grass field that can be played on.

Colless said the turf grown at the farm has to be perfect or venues like Allianz Stadium will find another company for their turf.

“If you screw up one area, everyone else knows and the competition is always right behind you ready to pounce,” he said.
