How Power Levels Worked During the Fall of Babylon

Babylon’s Fall is an action RPG with a heavy focus on co-op gameplay and an additional loot system. Developed by Platinum Games, it shares similarities with previous games from the studio, but is also quite different.

Billed as a live service title, you will spend a lot of time with the device. When it comes to the loot hunt, Babylon’s Fall works a little differently than your usual RPG.

Understanding power levels

At the base level, each character has both a player level and a power level. A player’s level is much more traditional, determined by the amount of experience gained in battles. It’s the power level with which you’ll spend more time interacting.

Each piece of equipment, whether it’s a weapon or armor, has its own power level rating, represented by its number. Your overall wattage is determined by the average wattage of the equipment you’ve equipped. If you want a higher level of power, you will need to equip equipment with a larger number even if their stat distribution is not as you want. This trade-off might put people off in other games, but it’s much more manageable in Autumn of Babylon.

Farming for equipment

While all quests have a recommended power level, this doesn’t really affect the farming experience. All gear acquired as drops during the mission will expand with your current power level.

This means you can repeat quests more easily at your leisure if you’re after a particular benefit or stat distribution. Let’s say you equip a new helmet that greatly reduces your sanity and resiliency at the cost of a slight improvement in vitality.

Under normal circumstances you wouldn’t want this so you just have to work your way through it until something more appealing drops. In this game you can equip a higher level helmet even if you don’t like its stats then farm for better gear in the previous mission. In this sense, the fall of Babylon rationalized the hunt for loot. You don’t have to find the hardest content to continue building your character. How Power Levels Worked During the Fall of Babylon
