That LIV golf series has caused much controversy lately as it has plunged the golfing world into a hostile divide. While several golfers are making the switch and facing the wrath of the PGA and DP Tours, there are others who have stayed loyal. One can see how tempting it can be for just about anyone to offer 7 or 8 digits as salary, but others wonder how they can overlook the show’s Saudi support.

One of those golfers was a veteran Tiger Woods. One of the most successful golfers of all time, Woods has refused to join the LIV series, even for huge sums of money, as he remains loyal to the PGA Tour. The 15-time major champion was offered quite a bit of money by the LIV series – almost too much to imagine – but had other plans in mind.

Tiger Woods offered a “high nine figure” amount to join the LIV Golf Series

Norman says Woods turned down a deal “Insanely enormous, we’re talking about high nine-digit numbers here”. Of course, this would mean the amount is closer to $1 billion, the highest amount of money offered to a golfer out there. Phil Mickelson was offered $200 million, while golfers like Bryson DeChambeau were given $100 to $150 million for free. However, nothing beats the hefty offer that was made to Woods, and rightly so.

Still, Woods doesn’t find much value in the Tour. At a press conference ahead of the 150th Open, Woods said: “I just don’t see how positive this move is supposed to be in the long term. What these players do for guaranteed money… what’s the incentive to practice? What’s the incentive to go out there and make it in the dirt? You just get paid a lot of money up front and play a few events and play 54 holes.”
