How much is the UFC worth?

The UFC was once on the brink of extinction, but now its value has more than tripled.

The UFC has grown tremendously over the years. In 2001 the UFC was in danger of being wiped out, now it is worth an estimated $9-10 billion. UFC President Dana White spoke to TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter about the UFC’s growth in 2020 despite the pandemic.

“It’s the best year we’ve ever had. Crazy to say that. We’ve broken pretty much every record we have, except of course the live gate. It’s been a very challenging year for us to pull off all these things. It was without a doubt the toughest year of my career,” said White.

The growth of the UFC

The UFC was bought by Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta in 2001 for $2 million. With White’s help, they managed to turn the ailing sport on its head. In 2016, the UFC was sold by Zuffa LLC to WME-IMG for $4 billion. In 2018, UFC signed a broadcast deal with ESPN. The deal was for ESPN to air 30 events a year for five years.

Since those deals, the organization has had a string of blockbuster bouts that have grossed millions in pay-per-view. In 2021, UFC 257 sold 1.5 million PPVs. The promotion also saw viewership growth on ESPN and across social media, according to White’s interview with TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter.

“Our social media growth has been tremendous this year,” he added. “We surpassed 10 million followers on YouTube and earned Diamond Play status – the second largest among sports organizations worldwide, after the NBA. Our US Instagram growth was up 38.17% – we’re back second to the NBA. 2nd most views on Instagram compared to all other US-based sports – number two after the NBA – and Joaquin Buckley [viral knockout] was massive. It broke all kinds of records.”

The way things are going for the UFC, the organization is on track to become the most successful MMA advertising company in the world. How much is the UFC worth?
