Houston Texans give up RB veteran Phillip Lindsay, source says

HOUSTON – Events Texans gave up running again Phillip Lindsay, a source confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday.

He will become a free agent if he is denied an exemption by another team.

Lindsay has run 130 yards and touched the ball 50 times this season for a team that ranks 31st in Football Outsiders’ DVOA. Lindsay lost 3 yards on his only take of the Texans 22-13 win last Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Lindsay is part of the group of veteran runners that Texas general manager Nick Caserio signed for the season. Houston traded Mark Ingram for New Orleans Saints last month, run away again David Johnson and Rex Burkhead in the list. Houston has also added running again Royce Freeman.

The Texan signed Lindsay in March for $3.25 million with $1 million guaranteed and $500,000 in incentives.

The former Pro Bowl is back available this season when Dancer broncos canceled the RFA bid they had placed on him which would have allowed them to match any contract but would not offer the team any compensation if he signed elsewhere.

He dashed more than 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons with the Broncos and had 2,550 yards in three seasons with Denver. He also rushes to 17 touchdowns.
