House fire in Mooroolbark in Melbourne: wife dead, two children critical

A woman has been found dead and two children are in critical condition after a large house fire broke out in north-east Melbourne.

Emergency services were called to the Maralee Drive home in Mooroolbark around 9pm Monday for reports of the fire.

When firefighters entered, they found a woman with severe injuries to her abdomen.

They also found two unconscious children.

All three residents were evacuated from the home after the fire was put out.

Paramedics treated the women and two children, a boy and a girl, but the woman died at the scene. No one was said to be home at the time of the fire.

The children suffered smoke inhalation and are in critical but stable condition in the hospital where their father is with them.

While the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal fire are still being determined, police are currently searching for no one else.
