Horrifying moment: Townsville father fends off suspected gang with scooter

A gang of teenage thugs, one of whom wielded a knife, were caught on camera allegedly threatening a father and trying to steal a luxury car in north Queensland.

The group of at least six had their faces partially covered with makeshift masks as they drove to the Townsville property in two white cars about 3.30pm on Monday before jumping over a fence.

“I’m just a man,” homeowner, husband and father of three daughters Harmen Bajwa told 7NEWS.

“You tried to attack me.”

The gang is seen running into a garage and supposedly trying to steal the family’s luxury car.

Bajwa chased away the suspected car thieves before being threatened with a knife and reversing into the garage.

“Some of them were in the vehicle and tried to steal it. I scared them,” the father said.

“You scared me with a knife. They wanted the keys.”

The group is again driven away by the owner with the scooter in hand before the men finally flee the scene.

“They just said, ‘Give the keys, give the keys,'” the homeowner recalls.

“So I pretended to give the keys but then I got the scooter (and) scared them.

“I wasn’t too worried about the knife, but yeah, it was scary at a moment, but I didn’t give them the keys.”

Police praised the man’s bravery and said they were investigating the incident. There were no arrests.

On the same day, a woman and her 10-year-old son were “dragged” in Kirwan, Townsville, as they tried to prevent their car from being stolen.
