Find out what Ryan Blaney had to say about his falling out with Martin Truex Jr.
Ryan Blaney conceded that his level of comfort as Martin Truex Jr is low as he got the lead after an impressive performance over the past few months that he has been unable to emulate. He points out that after Martin’s graduation, avoiding that pressure is the easiest and hardest thing to get a win, which is what he’s been trying to do all season.
“That’s probably definitely out the window. He’s performed really well over the past month and a half and we haven’t. He kind of got a clear break from the whole field and then our race with Martin, I mean he closed the gap pretty well. He ran pretty well, so it’s two different things. I mean the easiest thing but the hardest thing is to win and I could stop talking about it but we’ve been trying all year‘ Ryan Blaney said.
Ryan Blaney went on to say that he hopes to get the win to allay concerns as he’s annoyed at the thought of racing for points against the JGR man. He went on to say that with two more road races to come, for him it’s a balancing act between fighting for victory and staying in the bubble of hope there won’t be any new winners this season.
“Hopefully we can do that and not have to worry, but you just have to keep in mind that you’re still earning points to get Martin – us – into the finals. You don’t want to be in the bubble if there aren’t any new winners and obviously you want to try and win the race so it’s a balancing act, especially the two street courses that we haveadded Ryan Blaney.
Ryan Blaney added that his strategy at races is situational and they were in constant contact with the team throughout the race week to decide what strategy would give him the advantage over the #19 Camry after the checkered flag. He pointed out that at the end of the day it’s all about fighting hard for that all-important win.
“did you dig? Do you take the stage points to try to keep a good gap on the 19 or if you think your car can win do you try to go to the front? So, it’s kind of situational, I have a feeling. We talk about all of these scenarios throughout the week and in our pre-race meetings, but at the end of the day the main focus is on winning the race and just doing whatever it takes to try and make that happen‘ explained Ryan Blaney.
