Hitman 3’s Pirate Island map hides a Monkey Island Easter Egg

The long-awaited Monkey Island sequel is due out later this year, but Agent 47 and the Hitman series are celebrating their return a little earlier with a new Easter egg. in the hit man 3‘s newest map, Pirate Island, players can find a sneaky nod to the series hidden in the setting, along with a puzzle worthy of an adventure game.

The Easter Egg is located on the west beach of the island in a small bay with a tombstone inside. An inscription on the stone reads ‘G. Threepwood, Mighty Pirate” with a skull and crossbones. This is a reference to the Monkey’ Island series protagonist, Guybrush Threepwood, who has starred in the LucasArts adventure games since the very first entry in 1990.

While that alone is a nice nod to one of gaming’s greatest pirates, IO Interactive doesn’t stop there. Instead, it turns out there’s also a neat little puzzle that fits into the Monkey Island adventure game form.

To solve this puzzle, players must light four braziers on the island. Next to Threepwood’s grave is one that should alert players to the existence of the devious puzzle. Another torch is on the grassy area behind the suspension bridge, another is in the ruined fortress, and another is at the top of the cliff behind the satellite control area.

After all the torches are lit, find a shovel, go back to Threepwood’s grave and start digging. After a while, Agent 47 pulls up a chest with pirate loot.
