Hit Tom Brady’s Blood With The First Unsportsmanlike Punishment Of His Career In The Bucs-Rams Playoff Game – CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) – Having properly handled Tristan Wirfs in Sunday’s game, Tom Brady knew going into the Buccaneers playoffs that he would be hit by the Rams’ powerful pass. But that doesn’t mean he will delight about it.

So when Brady takes a hit that he feels violates the rules, he wants a penalty for the offending party. After Von Miller made a shot to Brady’s chest and mask, Brady turned to referee Shawn Hochuli while pointing at his chin.

Hochuli doesn’t give Brady the flag he’s been looking for, prompting Brady to stand up and clearly shout, “You are [bleeping] race me?” at Hochuli.

At that point, Hochuli finally hit his belt for his yellow flag, although he did do it to call a penalty for Brady.

The 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct marks the first time Brady has been penalized for that offense in his 22-year career.

Brady was right, when his lips bled from the blow.

Brady was Brady, he made a great play for a 19-yard connection in the next play, switching second and 17th and recoupling the penalty yards. But the Bucs’ pass stalled at the 30-yard line, and Ryan Succop missed the target, keeping Tampa 17-3 in deficit.

Interestingly, Brady spoke on his podcast this week about how he feels he doesn’t get rougher passer penalties than most quarterbacks. But he has admitted that the umpires let him get away with some blasts after the whistle like the one flagged on Sunday.

“I know that they can let me overlook a lot of unsportsmanlike behaviour. “I have a little pain in their ass, if you don’t already know that.”

Brady has more reasons than just being hit on the chin to feel frustrated at the time of the outburst. With the departure of the aforementioned Wirfs, fierce passes hit Brady in the face as soon as he stepped back to pass. Brady was just 10 for 21 for 112 yards at penalty time, with the Bucs beating three of their first four properties before a goal was missed.

Getting worse and worse. After the Rams scored another field goal to make it 20-3, Brady was fired on the first inning of his subsequent possession before making an intercept in the second.

Brady’s penalty was the second unsportsmanlike penalty taken against Tampa Bay in the first half. Defensive Ndamukong Suh was penalized after pointing the finger at Matthew Stafford after a play in which Suh argued that Stafford had kicked him.

That is Not the first unsportsmanlike punishment in Suh’s career.
