History says bet on Sergio Garcia at The Players Championship

Although it is not officially a Main Tournament, Player Championship has become one of the most anticipated and staked events on the PGA Tour’s schedule.

Top golfers in the world compete for a share in a $20 million wallet, and bettors will study the numbers all week trying to predict who will win.

One name that probably won’t get mentioned much is Sergio Garcia, but I recommend betting on him in some form at TPC Sawgrass. Few players have enjoyed the success he has had during his career in this star-studded league.

As I pointed out in betting preview for the Player’s Championshipcourse history isn’t exactly the best indicator here as TPC Sawgrass played differently in March. Historically, the tournament was held in May before moving to this month in 2019. With that said, Sergio has finished 9th and 22nd in two complete tournaments since moving in, so the schedule change is unlikely to affect the Spaniard.

Garcia is currently listed at +7000 (bet $100 for $7,000 profit) at WynnBET to win this week’s event, and while that option is available, I personally wouldn’t recommend it. The pitch is too big and too crowded for Garcia to win it for the second time in his career, but there are always other options.

You can instead bet on him finishing in the top 5, top 10 or top 20 at WynnBET. Those odds are yet to be announced, but stay tuned for them later this week.

Also, putting him in match betting, specifically in some of the places where he’s been shortlisted, could prove valuable. TPC Sawgrass can be a dangerous playground for young golfers, and bettors and bettors will likely underestimate Garcia compared to the young pro pool. If you can find him at a premium compared to anyone else this week, he’s well worth a try.
