A few days after Cleveland Browns made a blockbuster move to trade for Deshaun Watson, they are involved in another QB trade. This time they are the ones who send Case Keenum to the Buffalo Bills for a 7th-round pick.

Case Keenum signed with the Browns ahead of the 2020 season, where he would be Baker Mayfield’s backup. 2021 was his second season but he started with two games at the end of the year and won both.

Keenum was a journeyman quarterback in the NFL who has played for 6 franchises to this point in his career, with Buffalo being 7th. He is best known for his 2017 season, in which he led the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship game before losing to the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles.

Now Keenum is moving to the AFC East to once again be a backup, this time for Josh Allen.

With Deshaun Watson now poised to be the franchise quarterback in Cleveland. It seems like Baker Mayfield will surely be sold this offseason. That made a lot of people think Case Keenum would stay with the Browns to support Watson. However, Cleveland has taken a different route.

The Browns recently signed Jacoby Brissett as Deshaun Watson’s backup. While Watson is unlikely to face criminal charges, it still seems highly likely that he will be suspended from the NFL. That means Cleveland needs someone to start at quarterback for at least part of the season.

With that in mind, they have preferred Brissett over Keenum as the gap quarterback for the eventual suspension. As for the Bills, they needed a backup quarterback for Josh Allen after Mitch Trubisky decided to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers and try to land a starting job there.

After their new backup quarterback was acquired, Bills fans took to Twitter to offer their opinions.
