For some, July 4th is simply an American holiday meant to honor US history. For others, it’s the ultimate summer weekend, often marked by al fresco barbecues or a day at the beach – even better that this year it falls on a three-day weekend. But for a certain subset of people, it’s the day that Nathan’s famous hot dog eating contest takes place…an event worth celebrating.

For the uninitiated, Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is exactly what it sounds like: a high-intensity competition that pits contestants against each other to eat as many hot dogs and buns as possible within a given time frame. As always, the event will take place in Coney Island.

Reigning champion Joey Chestnut is the favorite to win the men’s with 14 wins. The bigger question is whether he will beat his own record of 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. In the women’s category, all eyes are on Miki Sudo, who has captured the crown every year since 2014. The exception was in 2021 when she retired from competition due to pregnancy.

Cash prizes are also at stake. The grand prize is $10,000. Silver and Bronze medalists win $5,000 and $2,500 respectively.

Which TV station has “Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest”?

The men’s competition will be streamed live on ESPN on Monday, July 4 at 12:00 p.m. ET. This year, ESPN’s SportsCenter host John Anderson will provide play-by-play commentary, doubled by in-depth analysis from Richard Shea. The women’s competition will air at 10:45 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
