Here’s how to watch Marvel’s The Defenders series in chronological order

Before the age of Disney+ and the consistent stream of MCU and war of stars-related content, Netflix captured the early market for superhero shows. These shows are built around characters such as Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock and Rosario Dawson‘s Claire Temple. Even before the crossover event in That defender, characters, references and actions were very strongly connected. For a time, fans of the series thought these popular shows would be eclipsed forever. Until Matt Murdock flew into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home. He followed shortly thereafter Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Kingpin in the MCU series hawk eye, which raised questions about what the state of the rest is the defenders would.

Shortly after Disney released this the defenders Series would be added to Disney+ on March 16, 2022. And there all series are now streamed together with the show Marvel’s agents from SHIELD. Conveniently, unlike some of the more complicated timelines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Defenders Saga was released in correct chronological order. This order can still be a bit confusing to outsiders and involves weaving from show to show. It’s important to note that it would be very difficult to skip a season and understand the entire timeline. For example, both Claire Temple and Turk appear in the first seasons of virtually all of them defender shows. There are several side quests in each show that eventually become their own storylines or show themselves. For example, daredevil Season 2 focuses on Frank Castle (aka Punisher) and he later eventually got his own show. But if you’re interested in rewatching all the shows in the series, here’s the right way to do it.

daredevil Season 1 (April 10, 2015)

This season is the foundation for the rest of the shows and charts the process of Matt Murdock slowly becoming a daredevil while taking on his nemesis Wilson Fisk.

Jessica Jones Season 1 (November 20, 2015)

Super strong Jessica is a troubled private investigator who drinks a little too much, but after meeting her nightmarish villain you might be more willing to forgive. Kligrave is able to brainwash those around him, and a case reunites Jessica with her former tormentor.

daredevil Season 2 (March 18, 2016)

After putting Fisk in jail, you’d expect there to be less violence in Hell’s Kitchen, but the appearance of the Punisher turns Matt’s world upside down. Matt grapples with the moral issues surrounding Frank’s methods and is even more disturbed by the appearance of his ex, Electra.

Luke cage Season 1 (September 30, 2016)

Luke Cage season one introduces us to the dark underside of Harlem. When Luke Cage’s mentor is caught in the crossfire, Cage must fight some ghosts of the past and present to make amends.

iron fist Season 1 (March 17, 2017)

If you’ve been looking for a rich billionaire martial artist but missed Gotham, you might find Danny Rand. After his parents are killed (sound familiar?), Danny sets out to take back his family business, but unlike Bats, he has a superpower, the ability to wield ancient mystical kung fu.

The Defenders (18 August 2017)

New York is (as always) in peril once again, and this time it seems it takes more than one hero to win the day. Too bad Cap and Iron Man are AWOL, so we see the motley crew of New York’s weirdest vigilantes band together, leaving only Punisher out of this brief team-up series.

The Punisher Season 1 (November 17, 2017)

After he escaped from prison daredevil Season 2, Frank was busy. In an attempt to fight the usual criminal underground, Frank uncovers a conspiracy rooted in the incident that killed his family and blazes a brutal path to the truth.

Jessica Jones Season 2 (March 8, 2018)

This season is oddly without a main villain and focuses on how Jessica gained her powers. In some ways it can seem more like an origins season than season one, and while it has excellent character building, it could have used a more concrete ending.

Luke Cage Season 2 (June 22, 2018)

Mariah Dillard (Alfred Woodard) returns as the main villain in Season 2, and with the introduction of Bushmaster, this season feels very close to the comics. One of the best superhero TV shows produced to date, this season will have you hooked from start to finish.

Iron Fist Season 2 (September 7, 2018)

Danny and Colleen thought they could go into hiding after the events of the defender Series, but with a multitude of rival gangs turning the peace upside down, they are drawn back into the fray. The season culminates with Davos, a former Iron Fist contender, angered by Danny’s lack of commitment to defending K’un-Lun, attempts to take the Iron Fist from Danny.

Daredevil Season 3 (October 19, 2018)

After the events of the defenders, Matt is left badly injured. When I heard that Wilson Fisk struck a deal with the government to be released, Matt embarks on a dark path. The season focuses on Matt trying not to crack his internal code while the system he believes in collapses.

The Punisher Season 2 (January 18, 2019)

This season, Frank continues his trend of vigilantism outside of New York. He meets a young woman named Rachel who is in big trouble and tries to find out who is after her.

Jessica Jones Season 3 (June 14, 2019)

Everything changes for Jessica after Jessica’s mother dies and her best friend Trish gains superpowers. Trish and Jessica originally try to solve it together and hunt down a psychopathic serial killer, but a revelation pits these two friends against each other.

The future?

While rumors are flying everywhere, very little concrete information is known about the future of these characters. One of the more plausible speculations revolves around the new She Hulk Show. As with many Marvel characters, She-Hulk is known to live and work in New York, and as a lawyer, she could use a private investigator like Jessica Jones. Also actress Jessica Jones Kristen Knight has stated that she would be willing to work for Disney and return as Jessica in the future. Hopefully we’ll see more of our favorites soon, be it in She Hulk or any other MCU show in the near future.
