Hebert Sousa, Olympic Gold Medal Winner, Sign with Probellum

Probellum has announced the signing of 2020 Olympic gold medalist Hebert Sousa ahead of his plans to turn professional.

Sousa made history in Tokyo earlier this year, taking home gold for Brazil in the middleweight division after knocking out Oleksandr Khyzhniak in the third round of their competition.

It ended a great amateur career for the 23-year-old from Salvador, which included a silver medal at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, a bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships in Yekaterinburg and bronze at the 2018 South American Games in Cochabamba.

Now, Sousa will take his incredible talents to the professional ranks, with the highly-rated Brazilian looking to replicate the enormous success he has enjoyed to date.

Sousa said: “I am delighted to announce that I am signing with Probellum. “I was proud to have won a gold medal at the Olympics earlier this year, and now is the time to show what I can do as a professional.

“The opportunity to play not only in Brazil but around the world is something I’m very excited about, and I can’t wait to get started.”

He is the latest addition to Probellum’s talent roster, having signed the likes of Regis Prograis, Nonito Donaire, Donnie Nietes, Lee McGregor, Eimantas Stanionis, Arthur Biyarslanov, Taras Shelestyuk, Ricky Burns, Paul Butler , Lewis Ritson, Muhammad Waseem, O’Shaquie Foster, Hovhannes Bachkov, Darius Fulghum, Eduardo Hernandez, Mark Dickinson, Brandon Moore, Jack Bowen, Jason Mallia and Francisco Rodriguez.

Richard Schaefer, President of Probellum said: “We are extremely pleased to make another major signing by welcoming Hebert Sousa to the team. “We’ve contracted some of the best fighters globally, and now we’ve got one of the best fighters Brazil has ever produced in Sousa.

“Probellum has shown time and again that we want to tap into markets that often don’t get the support they deserve, and by having a superstar like Sousa now join our ranks, we will find a way to knock out Brazil and South America.”

News on when Sousa will make her professional debut will be announced in due course.
