Hearing full sentences of Boss Toad from Super Nintendo World will spoil your appetite

While Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood is not yet open to the public, press are getting their first impressions a month early, and videos of what to expect at the first US Nintendo theme park are spreading. One video that more and more people are seeing is that of Chef Toad at the Toadstool Café. When you enter this restaurant you are greeted by a screen where the chef welcomes you to the restaurant before starting to prepare your meal.

While this isn’t the first time we’ve heard a toad speak in full sentences – they had lines of dialogue in Super Mario Sunshine and snippets of brief speaking moments in other games – the presentation made for this presentation is a bit chilling. The actor seems to be struggling a bit to get through his script, which we could understand for someone trying to speak in such a high-pitched voice.

Apart from the welcome message, the place looks nice when you enter the cafe. There are various power-up items and a Yoshi Egg behind the ordering counter next to the on-screen menus, and warp tubes smash out of the ceiling where it appears a Super Mushroom has fallen out and landed on a pillar in the central seating area. There are also additional monitors on the wall to give customers a glimpse of the “kitchen” where the Toads work hard to prepare your meals.

Overall, the Toadstool Café looks like a nice place to take a quick break from the Los Angeles sun and grab a quick bite to eat when visiting Super Nintendo World. The theme park as a whole is full of Mushroom Kingdom references, with Donkey Kong additions likely to come at some point in the future after the Japanese site gets them. We just recommend not exposing your ears too much to the Toad Chef’s nagging voice.
