HBO Max orders Neil Gaiman’s DEAD BOY DETECTIVES series – GeekTyrant

HBO Max has officially ordered its adaptation of Neil Gaimann‘s Dead Boy detectives to series. They ordered a pilot seven months ago and apparently they liked what they saw from it and want to move on.

The story will explore “loss, grief and death through the lens of Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, two dead British teenagers, and their very real friend Crystal Palace. So it’s like a classic crime series – only darker and acidic.” It explains that “Charles and Edwin “decided not to go to the afterlife in order to stay on earth and investigate crimes involving the supernatural is”.

The series stars George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri as Dead Boy Detectives Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland and Cassius Nelson (Last night in Soho) as Crystal Palace. Other cast members include Briana Cuco (The flight attendant) as Jenny the butcher, Ruth Conell (supernatural) as night nurse, Yuyu Kitamura (The emigrants) as Niko and Jenna Lyon (claws) as Esther.

The series is from The flight attendant Creator Steve Yockey and Doom Patrol Creator Jeremy Schnitzer and it will consist of eight episodes. Yockey wrote the pilot episode and is serving as showrunner. He produces together with Carver, Gregory Berlanti and Sarah Scheiter. The pilot was headed by Lee Toland Warrior.
