SIERRA (CBS13) – Caltrans is warning drivers that emergency tree removal operations will result in periodic closures of many roads in the Sierra through March.
Hundreds of trees along the Sierra’s roads constitute a hazard and must be removed after record winter storms in December combined with strong mountain winds. Caltrans awarded an emergency $3.7 million contract to Tyrrell Resources, Inc. based in Truckee to make this work.
Most operations will take place Monday through Friday, 7am to 5pm Drivers may experience a 20 to 30 minute delay.
Next week’s work is scheduled on the following highways:
- State Route 20 (SR-20) in Nevada County from Scotts Flat Road to White Cloud Campground
- SR-49 in Yuba County from Marysville Road to Camp Pendola
- SR-193 in El Dorado County from Penobscot Road to Bear Creek Road
- Interstate 80 (I-80) connects SR-174 to Monte Vista. Work on I-80 will require the closure of eastbound lane 2 Monday through Wednesday and westbound lane 2 Thursday and Friday
