Harry Styles’ No To Nugs Moment Wins PETA Award

He’s up for six Grammys, but there’s an award Harry Styles is already in the bag. The multi-platinum artist is now the proud recipient of a Libby Award from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). He kicked out Bella Hadid, Jimmy Fallonand Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker in the Best Viral Moment for Animals category.

You may recall that during Styles’ 15-day residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City this summer, a fan threw a chicken nugget at the singer-actor during one of his performances. (I guess someone thought they looked hungry.) Styles, who wore light blue pants with pink circles and a matching tank top, seemed mostly amused by the unusual interruption. But when the audience started chanting for him to eat the gifted nut, he reminded the crowd that he doesn’t eat meat.

He was far from condescending considering how he tossed the (then cold) food back to the fan and said “we’ll get you another nugget” as it fell to the floor. It’s all very charming!

Elsewhere in Libbys (short for “liberation”), Daisy Ridley won a Favorite PETA Collab award in honor of their call to the University of Massachusetts-Amherst to end experiments on marmosets. She became aware of the problem when she learned that the animals that were later killed were given Star Wars names in the lab, including that of her own character, Rey. The scientists used the little monkeys to study menopause and had their ovaries removed.

The university responded in mid-October, saying all research complied with federal and state laws and the “highest ethical standards.” A campus spokesman added that “animal research has contributed to many of the medical advances we know today, including vaccines, antibiotics, anesthetics and drugs to treat serious illnesses.”

Other Libby highlights included being a tennis champion Venus Williams Winner of Best Vegan Brand for their Happy Viking Protein Shakes Hailey Bieber, Kevin Hartand the Jonas Brothers. This year’s Pawsome Adoption Advocate award (for a celebrity who advocates for animal adoption) went to Nicola Peltz-Beckham. She waved Drew Barrymore, Janel Parishand Prince Harry and Megan Markle.

Other Libby Awards went to products that don’t use animals, such as Beyond Meat, Crocs and vegan makeup products.

Harry Styles’ meat-free days were first confirmed in 2020, though he still eats dairy and the occasional fish. 2015, not long after the documentary was released blackfishStyles, then part of One Direction, told a crowd in San Diego not to go to Sea World.
