Harry and Meghan: King Charles sees “tremendous glimmers of hope” for family reconciliation

King Charles sees “tremendous glimmers of hope” for a reconciliation with Prince Harry, Meghan and the rest of the royal family, a source says.

King Charles is believed to have attempted to mend some of the cracks in the days following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, on September 8th.

Speaking to The Telegraph, a royal source said there are promising signs of a breakthrough in the frosty relationship between the UK-based family members and the Sussexes, who live in the US.

“There have been tremendous glimmers of hope over the last 16 days or so,” the source said.

“As for the future, there is hope for a cause of unity.”

The source added: “It remains the case that King Charles loves his two children,” a point made clear in his first televised address to the public in his new role as monarch.

During his speech, Charles said he was confident that William and Catherine, the new Prince and Princess of Wales, “will continue to inspire and lead our national conversations”.

But he was quick to add, “I also want to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives abroad.”

After the Queen’s death, King Charles allowed Prince Harry to wear a military uniform for a vigil with her seven other grandchildren during her lay in state at Westminster Hall, although Harry was no longer a working royal.

Some observers saw this as an important “olive branch” moment, along with Harry and Meghan’s inclusion with William and Catherine on a royal stroll to meet with mourners outside Windsor Castle.

Little information has been released about how much private time Harry and Meghan have been spending with the rest of the family, aside from official mourning ceremonies following the Queen’s death.

But if King Charles wanted it – and Harry and Meghan were open to the idea – some form of reconciliation could see the pair return to royal duties, at least part-time.

But much will depend on what is revealed in Harry’s forthcoming, supposedly all-encompassing memoir, which he has promised will be an “accurate and entirely truthful” account of his life thus far.
