Hallmark Rom-Com Shows Lead With Down Syndrome
Production for Hallmark’s Color my world with love was recently completed and according to a report by ET Online follows the romance of a main character with Down Syndrome and her journey to love.
actress Lily D Moore (I have never) stars Kendall, an artist with Down syndrome who paints in an impressionist style that reflects reality as she sees it. Kendall is a happy and thriving girl, thanks in large part to her doting mother, Emma, who she plays Erica Durance (Kleinville) and her grandmother Bev, played by Karen Kruper (Chesapeake shore). Things change in Kendall’s life when she meets Brad, portrayed by David DeSanctis (Where hope grows), in a cooking class for different learners and a romance blossoms between them.
However, Emma, who has spent the last 22 years of her daughter’s life protecting her, is concerned about this new relationship, especially as it doesn’t take long for things to get serious. Emma is afraid of Kendall’s heart being broken, leading her to slow down the relationship’s progress. Benjamin Ayres (have hope) stars as Nic, a longtime family friend of Brad’s who will help Emma overcome her trepidation and accept her daughter’s romantic choices and perhaps become available to pursue romance herself. Kendall will show her mother the importance of looking beyond appearances to capture the beauty beneath.
Moore issued a brief statement on the project: “Everyone has dreams of falling in love and one day getting married, even people with disabilities. I hope viewers take away that Color My World With Love is about painting your own story through your emotions, and that we all have endless possibilities.” Taking to her Instagram, the actress shared her excitement at being part of the project and wrote, “Can’t wait to share more with you as we head towards the big day!!!”. The announcement should certainly be cause for excitement and celebration, as this upcoming romance is a victory for advocates of diverse media representation and the inclusion of people with disabilities as main characters.
Peter Benson directed the series, with Karl Cooper as a producer and Orly Adelson, Jonathan Eskenas and Kimberly Bradley as executive producers.
Color my world with love will premiere at Hallmark Movies & Mysteries later in the year.
