Guy Sebastian talks about his secret separation from his wife Jules in the new Sunrise interview
Guy Sebastian and his wife Jules have long been considered “couple goals” – a special partnership that others look up to and aspire to emulate.
But the Voice Australia judge surprised with a confession on Sunrise, revealing that Jules had “broken up” with him before the couple’s wedding before he won the Australian Idol win.
The couple, originally from Adelaide, began dating before Guy found fame on the talent show in 2003.

After winning the series, the singer packed up his life and moved to Sydney to pursue his career, but not before Jules “broke my heart”.
“I didn’t think we’d get back together,” Guy told Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington on Wednesday.
“I was 18 when we first met and I think I was 21 (when we broke up) and she kind of broke my heart.
“She broke up with me and then Idol happened and I moved to Sydney and I didn’t think we’d get back together, I wasn’t sure.
“But you live life a little bit and then you realize, ‘Oh my God, I had so much history, she always loved me for me.’
“She was always the same.”
The 41-year-old revealed that he is his wife’s only friend.
“That’s always a positive when she doesn’t have another beautiful Latin lover or anyone else to compare me to… or a Matt Shirvington,” he teased.
Shirvo burst out laughing and threw his notes to the side of the couch in surprise.
“It’s strange to be sitting in the middle of it all,” laughed Natalie.
Shirvo said he was in a similar situation to Guy, having met his wife Jessica when they were both teenagers.
“There’s something to that because my wife and I, Jess, had the same type of relationship,” the co-host said.
“So it has a purity, it has a magic, and you grow together; Not only are you together, you are also growing together.”
Guy nodded before adding that it was special to “know each other’s childhoods and where you both come from.”
“I think she’s very loving, very smart and emotionally intelligent and there’s so much that I’m missing where… I could blow up over something and it’s always Jules that’s my calming force, that helps to see things a little more clearly.
“And me, and her too. I think we harmonize well with each other. I love her more now than ever, so it’s great.”
Guy and Jules married in May 2008 and are the proud parents of two boys, Hudson (11) and Archer (9).
The singer’s latest hit, I Chose Good, is dedicated to his wife.
