GTA Online fans upset as more than 180 cars will be removed and some will be sold for paywall

It’s an exciting time for Grand Theft Auto Online fans! Today, June 13th, is update day. And while the new free expansion, San Andreas Mercenaries, adds new missions, other miscellaneous content and much-needed quality of life changes, and also removes over 180 cars and motorcycles from the in-game stores. This massive removal of content didn’t sit well with fans, especially since several of the cut cars were placed behind one GTA+ pay wall.
Since the start in October 2013 GTA Online has continued to be updated, expanded and ported to more consoles – like PS4 and PS5 – as players keep coming back to the online open-world crime simulator. And the latest update, San Andreas Mercenariesis another big introduction of new content and smart changes. For example, You no longer have to press the X button to sprint! However, it turns out that this update probably removed more things than it added. Fans have discovered that at least 189 vehicles have been removed from the in-game stores, making them nearly impossible to purchase and use unless you already have them unlocked.
Rockstar removed 189 cars GTA Online
In a news post ahead of the June 8 update on the company’s official website, Rockstar technically informed players that some cars would be removed. However, that warning was vague, not specifying how many cars would be removed or which specific ones. Many assumed that in 2023 there could be about a dozen really old junk cars that nobody cares about anymore. However, that was not the case.
After the update went live on June 13th, Players began cataloging all cars removed from in-game stores and websites. After reviewing the figures, the list totals 189 vehicles, some of which do not appear as “less used” vehicles based on player reactions to the long list of cut cars.
Rockstar explained on Tuesday that these “less used” vehicles have been removed from the in-game shops to “optimize the shopping experience”. It also promised that these vehicles would be “made available in other ways from time to time” and listed the in-game casino win wheel as an option.
Rockstar is certainly placing previously free cars behind new ones GTA+ pay wall
To make matters worse, Rockstar recently announced: “Vinewood Car Club“, a new advantage when paying GTA+ Subscribers, introduces some of these now removed cars. Specifically the RE-7B and Stirling GT are now purchasable only GTA+ subscribers. This essentially means that these vehicles, which were once available for free, have been placed behind a $6-per-month paywall. Additionally, GTA+ is currently only available for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players and not for PC or older consoles GTA Online Player.
kotaku contacted Rockstar regarding the removed cars.
Even if only a few cut cars are hidden behind one GTA+ Subscription fee, it’s still extremely frustrating to see so many vehicles effectively erased GTA Online.
Yes, if you own one of these cars, you can still drive it around and enjoy it. But for new players or people who didn’t own everything – which means most players – this mass removal is annoying. Once easily acquired through in-game websites with free-to-earn currency, these sliced cars now only return “occasionally” at Rockstar’s discretion. This likely means that many players will unfortunately never get the chance to own and operate most of these 180+ cars, especially players who don’t GTA+ subscribers.
Now, for players who want to buy some of these cars, the best way is to use the Los Santos Car Meet and try to buy them there other players they sell. But that’s nowhere near as easy as it used to be, and likely won’t be good enough for players upset by Rockstar’s big change.
