The recent Saudi-sponsored LIV Golf Series has caused quite a bit of friction among golfers and the PGA Tour. The LIV Golf Series is scheduled to take place June 9-11 with a whopping $25 million in prize money.

Famous names including DustinJohnson, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood are on the list. Under these names is also Kevin Well, who resigned from the PGA Tour to compete in the series. He announced his retirement from the PGA Tour on social media. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan previously advised pro golfers that they could face disciplinary action for participating in the LIV series. Na was among 42 players originally named in the field for the controversial series.

The PGA Tour has refused to give players the required clearance for the series. However, according to skysports.com, Greg Norman has promised to “defend, compensate and represent” any sanctioned players if they play anyway.

“Actually, I’m a bit surprised” said Norman. “The players don’t have to resign from the tour. That was Kevin’s choice for whatever reason he wanted to do it.” Norman has said that he would give players whatever he needed and give them the right to do whatever they wanted as independent contractors.

“I respect the man for his courageous decision. I respect the person for wanting to come on board with us because they know they have a great opportunity at LIV. I’ll applaud him for that, but he didn’t have to from our side because LIV would be there (for him).” However, the $25 million series will be great for all players who will participate.
