The Packers face a lot of big roster questions during the season. Completion of the 2022 NFL Draft could help widen Aaron Rodgers’ championship window.
Retaining Aaron Rodgers is the Packers’ most pressing need of the season. Fortunately for the Green Bay fans, the odds appear to be shifting in favor of the organization’s chances of doing so.
Rodgers are not the only flying hazard facing Green Bay. The Davante Adams stellar transceiver could also start for greener, more lucrative pastures in free agency. Even if he does re-sign, it is imperative that the Packers spend serious draft capital improving their receptive corps.
That’s why Green Bay fans should be looking to watch their favorite team, belatedly, choose to use their late pick on a wide set this April. They will be delighted if the target below falls into their inner circle with the 28th overall pick.
Round 1: Treylon Burks
Burks will provide the Packers with what they lack at the moment in the form of a large, physically wide receiver who can clear the ball and generate yards after a catch. The former Arkansas standout player needs a bit more polish as a line runner, but there’s no reason to think he can’t develop into a #1 wide receiver playing in Green’s offensive system. Fly.
The big question is whether he can afford to play with Adams or whether he needs to be replaced. If Adams leaves for freelancing, Green Bay could be looking for a more polished expansion at this point in the draft. Rodgers didn’t have the patience to wait for someone to be the top collector.
Burks’ All-Pro comeback made him the right gamble for the Packers at the end of Round 1. It may take him a little while to understand what Rodgers wants in his receiver, but talent His physicality is too much to ignore at No. 28.
