Grand Theft Auto 6 Fan Poll asks if you can see Vice City in the past, present or future

Development on Grand Theft Auto 6 has been “in full swing” for some time now, and we’re starting to hear reports about what the next big Rockstar game will bring. The early buzz got fans excited, but it also has them contemplating the cancellation of the sixth numbered game. As with any video game fan base, there are many opinions.

ResetEra forum user T002 Tyrant created a poll to ask Grand Theft Auto fans when they would like to see the new playset. The options are past, present, future and others. At the time of writing, the present is winning by a wide margin with nearly half of all votes. Several replies say their reason for choosing today was the sheer number of strange happenings in the world today, many of which are ripe for being skewered with the satire GTA is known for.

This time poll didn’t come out of the blue, however. GTA 6 will reportedly have a female protagonist as part of a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired duo, and the game is set to be set in a fictional Miami. GTA: Vice City shared the same geographic setting, despite taking place during the cocaine heyday of the ’80s. If we do indeed return to Vice City, the question becomes whether we should do so today or go back to the same ’80s aesthetic. ResetEra responder Vex is considering taking the game even further back and maybe taking it back to the 70’s. Forum mate Jawmuncher would like to see it moved the other way, with a ’90s look.

Of course, there is also the question of when Grand Theft Auto 6 will actually appear. Some analysts are predicting a release date as early as 2023. For reference, the 2024 fiscal year runs from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. This is seen by many people as a potential launch window.
