Grammys 2022: Inside Jon Batiste’s Red Carpet and Performance Looks

as Jon Batiste Preparing for the 2022 Grammys, he was filled with honor and humility.
“A lot of people paved the way for me, musically and otherwise. To be honest, after the announcements, it was blurry. My phone rang all week. On the other hand, my partner (Suleika Jaouad) was diagnosed with a serious illness, so I was able to see everything with a lot of perspective,” said Batiste vanity fair.
While Sunday’s Grammy Awards is far from the first time the singer-songwriter has been nominated — he received a nod for his in 2018 Saint James hospital blues appearance and also in 2020 for his albums Chronology of a Dream: Live in the Village Vanguard and meditations with Cory Wong – it will be a banner night for the artist as he is this year’s main contender with 11 nominations.
For a night to remember, Batiste turned to Dolce & Gabbana to outfit him for the red carpet and his performance. “At its best, your clothes represent how you see yourself and how you want to be received. As a performer, it’s inevitable, so you might as well make it count,” explained Batiste.
The partnership came alive after that Dominic Dolce and Stefano Gabbana saw Batiste donning her iconic pink suit in the music video for “Freedom,” a track nominated for Record of the Year.

“When Jon first tried it on he immediately wanted to move, dance and scream, which is always a great sign. It brought him to life and we knew right away that this wouldn’t be our last collaboration. This suit helped define the fun, charismatic character we carried around during this ‘Freedom’ era and it just felt right to work with Dolce & Gabbana to bring our ‘Freedom’ characters to to bring this historic moment to life,” explains Jemel McWilliams, Batiste’s creative director and choreographer.
As for Batiste, Dolce & Gabbana looks forward to continuing to work with Dolce & Gabbana as their collaboration has allowed him to “bring my history and my culture into what they do”. “It’s been a really wonderful collection so far,” he said of collaborating with the Italian luxury fashion house.
