Texas Gov. Abbott, one of the main figures who’s been in the news for his campaign of opposition to Team Biden’s insane open-border policies, specifically the repeal of Title 42 authority that greatly facilitated deportations.
Well, in addition to humiliating Biden by shipping illegals to DC, a hilarious move that went into effect recently, Governor Abbott also appears to have done a bit of border diplomacy himself, convincing his counterpart in Mexico, the governor of Mexico’s Nuevo province of Leon , which trades security checks on certain trucks for Mexico’s promise to shut off the illegal immigration tap from that province.
Governor Abbott addressed this in a “victory” speech that will hopefully prove more accurate in her declaration of victory than George W. Bush’s infamous “mission accomplished” speech:
governor [Samuel] Garcia [Sepulveda] and I reached an agreement today… Governor Garcia has begun and will increase border security enforcement actions on the Nuevo Leon side both at ports of entry and along the Rio Grande River to prevent illegal immigration… The Texas Department of Public Security can go back to its old practice [and] As a result, the Nuevo Leone-Texas bridge is returning to normal operations effective immediately. At the moment. It will remain so as long as the Nuevo Leon lives up to this historic agreement.Better yet, Abbot announced that he is also working to formulate agreements with other Mexican provincial governors saying:
I look forward to working with all of you to achieve results similar to what we are achieving today with Governor Garcia. However, until those agreements are finalized with those states, the Texas Department of Public Safety will continue to conduct thorough investigations into vehicles entering the United States from all Mexican states except Nuevo Leon.
Aside from hopefully halting the flow of illegal immigrants into Texas, the move will also hopefully speed up border crossings, as indicated in Governor Abbott’s speech.
Abbott implemented tight security checks on trucks coming over the border from Mexico following Biden’s decision to end Title 42 and the massive wave of humanity crossing from Mexico, security checks that seriously slowed traffic. Mexican security checks sped up the process quite a bit, as reported by the New York Post:
In return, Abbott would halt inspections that would have created a massive cargo backlog at Texas ports of entry and cost state-owned companies an estimated $100 million a day.
The first Mexican checkpoint south of the Laredo-Colomba Bridge was set up on Tuesday, according to Mexico’s El Norte newspaper. The Mexican inspections take 30 minutes compared to the 45 to 60 minutes that the Texas Department of Public Safety inspections take, the outlet reported.
The controls created quite a mess at the border, so perhaps by changing how they’re administered in exchange for Mexico addressing the illegal immigrant problem, Abbott will calm the area down in more ways than one.
