Gotham Knights SDCC 2022 trailer shows Batgirl in gameplay action

The newest Gotham Knights The Character Spotlight, which premiered at San Diego Comic-Con, focuses on Batgirl, one of four playable heroes in the action-adventure ensemble, out this fall from developer WB Games Montreal.

Batgirl gives a brief monologue on the meaning of symbols, and then her trailer gets down to business, showing off her melee combos, special abilities, and other gadgets and weapons, including a baton that transforms into a nunchaku. While this might suggest that she is the Michelangelo of Gotham Knights‘ Quartet of crimefighters, Batgirl’s new trailer makes a compelling case for her being Gotham City’s next Batman.

The character drew a bit of controversy in the spring. At the time, the game’s official biography hinted that Barbara Gordon, canonically paralyzed by gunfire (in the equally controversial Batman: The Deadly Joke of 1988), had overcome her injuries through retraining, a term many people with disabilities find insensitive.

WB Games Montreal rewrote Gordon’s biography and consulted with gaming advocacy group AbleGamers to revamp her character. This explains why players will see a back brace under Gordon’s civilian clothes and will see her in the team’s hideout during rehab exercises.

Gotham Knights Slated for release on October 25th for PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X. Proposed PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions were scrapped earlier this year.
