Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 has switched to Wear OS, but it’s still an experience that’s clearly more Samsung’s than Google’s. Currently, Samsung is providing an update to Google Assistant for the Galaxy Watch 4, saying that the promised feature is still “a few months” from launch.
Along with details about the new Galaxy Watch 4 software update, Samsung has provided new information from its ongoing partnership with Google. That includes some good news, that YouTube Music will added the ability to stream songs instead of relying solely on downloads.
However, the bad news to balance that is that Samsung has confirmed the Galaxy Watch 4 won’t get the Google Assistant for “several months”.
Google Assistant will be available on the Galaxy Watch4 series in the coming months. With access to both Bixby and the Google Assistant, consumers will be equipped with enhanced voice assistant functionality to meet their various needs.
This comes six months after the Galaxy Watch 4 series first launched. At a timeSamsung said:
Samsung is working closely with Google to bring those popular Google services to the Galaxy Watch4 line. We’ll share more details when they’re ready.
It’s clear that progress has been made when it comes to bringing Google Assistant to the Galaxy Watch 4, just because of the fact that Samsung is now ready to call the feature’s name. However, it’s a bit disappointing to see that the feature, which has been on many people’s wish lists for months now, still doesn’t have a clear launch date.
