Gold Coast crash that closed the M1 motorway under investigation as dashcam footage emerged

Police are still investigating the cause of an accident that closed a highway on the Gold Coast.

7NEWS obtained dashcam footage of the crash, seen in the video aboveon the Pacific Highway in West Burleigh on Sunday morning.

Footage appears to show a four-wheel drive driving at high speed before colliding with several other cars.

The 4WD driver, a man in his 30s, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains Monday morning.

Another person was taken to John Flynn Hospital in stable condition.

Witnesses have described the man’s journey to 7NEWS as erratic.

7NEWS understands he barricaded himself in his vehicle as emergency services tried to reach him.

He is expected to recover from his injuries and police will question him when he is well enough.

No charges have been filed over the incident.

The incident closed the southbound lane of the freeway for a period of time on Sunday morning.
