God of War Ragnarok hype explodes with millions of views and likes for release date announcement

Excitement for God of War Ragnarok is at a high, especially now that a November release date has finally been set. PlayStation announced the long-awaited date without a big event or livestream: we just received a quick 30-second CGI trailer and blog post. Even that was enough to get big numbers, and the numbers reportedly mean millions of fans ready to play the game this fall.

Game reporter Benji Sales has compiled the figures from the Ragnarok announcements on twitter. Just hours after the news broke, developer Sony Santa Monica saw its most-liked tweet, PlayStation’s own tweet received 145,000 likes, and the PlayStation Instagram account hit nearly a million likes – it’s since hit the million mark exceeded.

In addition, the new movie trailer “Father and Son” (which you can watch at the end of this article) has received millions of views through its various re-releases. All those big numbers seem to point to some tangible hype for the game, and these potential customers could spell another blockbuster success for Sony. We’ll only have to wait a few months to find out as the release date has been set for Wednesday November 9th.

In November there will be several editions of God of War Ragnarok. Pre-orders open Friday, July 15, when the Standard, Launch, Digital Deluxe, Collector’s, and Jötnar editions will be available for sale. There are big differences between all of these, but at least anyone who only buys the game on PlayStation 4 can upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for $10 more.

As we wait for the launch of Ragnarok for the last few months, there is still time for speculation. The new trailer revealed Fenrir, a giant wolf with an interesting place in Norse mythology. His role in the game may not be entirely true to real-life folklore, but its inclusion is still quite exciting. The next few months will also present an opportunity for anyone looking to catch up to play all of the God of War games in order.
