Gil Brandt under fire for making disgusting remarks about Dwayne Haskins

Dwayne Haskins tragically died on Saturday morning after being hit by a vehicle. Hall of Famer Gil Brandt has been criticized for his distasteful comments about Haskin’s “living to die.”

The football community is mourning the tragic death of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins.

The former Ohio State record quarterback, who was later selected by Washington in the first round, was hit by a dump truck in Florida, where he was training with Steelers teammates.

A flood of thoughts, prayers, love, remembrance and sadness was seen on social media after the news broke late Saturday morning. The Steelers, Commanders, Ohio State, past and present teammates and a multitude of fans and media were heartbroken, devastated and speechless.

However, Hall of Famer Gil Brandt’s reaction is drawing the wrong attention.

Brandt was on the radio saying, “Haskins lived to die,” and suggested that if he only stayed in school longer, this tragedy would not have happened.

It’s incredibly offensive to say this about someone’s son, brother, husband, friend and teammate.

Haskins’ teammates, NFL players and the media rightly condemned Brandt’s comments.

Washington Commenders Jason Wright responded to a tweet by Mina Kimes, asking how that could even be a thought anyone would say.

Cam Heyward played with Haskins at the Steelers and offered a succinct message.
