Gervonta Davis is a solid betting favorite over Rolando Romero ahead of their lightweight pay-per-view boxing match on May 28th.
To no one’s surprise, WBA “regular” lightweight champion Gervonta Davis is the opportunities as a favorite in his Showtime pay-per-view on Saturday, May 28th boxing Fight against challenger Rolando Romero.
Davis (26-0, 24 KOs) has an impeccable record and has a 92 percent KO rating. The southpaw from Baltimore, MD is known for his impressive combination of speed and power.
During his nine-year professional boxing career, 26-year-old Davis fought his way from featherweight to super lightweight. However, lightweight seems to be where he is most comfortable.
Davis had a more challenging time than expected in his last game against Isaac Cruz. He defeated Cruz via unanimous decision, but some felt that Cruz deserved the win.
Davis’ less than stellar performance against Cruz did nothing to lessen his chances against Romero. Corresponding Wynnbet.com, Davis is odds of -900 to Romero’s +550. That makes Romero a 5-1 underdog.

Romero (14-0, 12 KOs) is also undefeated, but his boxing skills are rudimentary compared to Davis. Like Davis, Romero is a big puncher with an 85 percent KO rating. He stopped former Olympian Anthony Yigit in his last fight in July 2021.
Romero is the same age as Davis but he is 3 inches taller and the taller fighter. He insists his size will make all the difference in this fight.
Davis had no problem with larger hunters. He stopped super lightweight Mario Barrios in round 11 in 2021.
The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York hosts Davis vs. Romero. This will be Davis’ third fight at Barclays Center and Romero’s first. The venue is much closer to Davis’ hometown of Baltimore than Romero’s in Las Vegas. Davis should have the audience on his side.
Romero has a good chin, but it’s never been tested against a boxer of Davis’ caliber. Speed kills, as the saying goes, and Davis has all the speed in this matchup.
Look for Davis to use his superior hand speed against Romero. It should be target practice for Romero, and a KO win could go in his favor.
Romero is a good fighter, but his skills aren’t up to Davis’ level. A bet on Davis to win via KO should offer a decent payout regardless of the betting brokerage used.
Davis vs. Romero coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime pay-per-view.
