Georgia tasked with backyard rebuilding as Zamir White, James Cook departs for 2022 NFL Draft

Georgia will head into the next season in an attempt to continue its national championship without a return top two from 2021. Redshirt student Zamir White announced Friday that he’s already finished. announced its entry into the 2022 NFL Draft, joining teammate James Cook, who announced earlier in the week.

“This season has been an absolute thrill from start to finish and bringing home the national championship for Athens is the ultimate reward,” wrote White on his Instagram page. “I’m so proud and feel so fortunate to have been a part of this team… these are memories I will never forget and will certainly last a lifetime. That’s what prepared me for me for this next step and I’m proud to announce my intention in 2022 NFL Drafts. ”

White rushed in with a team-best 856 and 11 touchdowns over 8.3 yards each made this past season, while Cook, a senior, added 728 yards of javelin and seven points. White posted 84 yards and a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ 33-18 win over Alabama to take home Athens’ first national championship since the 1980s.

The Laurinburg, North Carolina-born player ended his college career with a 2,043-foot dash and 25 touchdowns. With White and Cook aiming for NFL, Georgia has a big hole to fill in its backyard this season.

Rebuild a backyard

White and Cook are the main force in Georgia’s run-based strike system. The duo have combined for nearly 1,600 yards of dash and 18 touchdowns over 5.8 yards each in 2021. In fact, White and Cook alone have had more dashing attempts (273 ) compared to Georgia’s pass completions (264).

While veterans of the top 50 have made their way to the NFL, Georgia has a huge selection of talent to choose from. Kenny McIntosh, Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards are blue-chip talents who each have made at least 49 rush attempts during the year. Dawgs also has the top 50 countries running again recruiting Branson Robinson to join the program as part of the Class of 2022.

Attacking star Jamaree Sayer has committed to the Senior Bowl, while starting to defend Justin Shaffer as a senior. However, three other starting players from the team are expected to return. Georgia’s recruiting, experience, and depth will fill a strong performer in 2022.

Draft question for both

White is ranked as the number 1 and 9th backrunners overall in the 2018 league, but has struggled to find his way into the field after toll both of his ACLs in recent seasons. He’s made a full recovery from his injury and has become a major rotational player, but his injury history could become a concern once he’s in the NFL Draft. White does not rank among the top 150 players in CBS Sports Outlook Rankings. Getting some independent medical evaluation could help propel him back to the board.

For Cook, the question is likely going to be about sample size. While he was second on the team for haste and had a breakthrough 67-yard run in College football National Championship Playoff, he’s only had 117 rush attempts heading into his senior season. At the same time, the lack of wear can ultimately prove to be an advantage.
