Georgia offered Fred Taylor $50,000 before going to Florida

The Georgia soccer program reportedly offered Florida soccer legend Fred Taylor around $50,000 before he eventually played for the Gators.

The cat is out of the duffel bag when former Florida football superstar running back Fred Taylor admitted to taking around $50,000 from the Georgia football program during his recruiting in the mid-1990s.

Taylor was asked for the five-figure sum of money Bussin’ with the boys by Will Compton and Taylor Lewan. While he seemed a bit reluctant to answer the incriminating question, the former Jacksonville Jaguars star let the boys know. This AFC South rivalry may be hot, but it doesn’t compare to the one fought in Jacksonville between the Gators and the Dawgs.

Here’s the entire video clip of Taylor telling how he got “the holdall” from Georgia.

Look. Taylor grew up in South Florida, so going to Athens for college would have been more shocking to him than Gainesville. If he had grown up in Jacksonville neutral territory, things might have been a little different. Ultimately, he played for then-better head coach Steve Spurrier and helped the Gators win their first national title in 1996.

As NIL begins, stories of top high school and collegiate athletes taking money during their years as yesterday’s amateurs will continue to bubble to the surface.

Ultimately, everyone and her brother know that the seedy underbelly of college recruitment has always been there. Only recently has the dog turned around, so to speak. Playing on both sides of the coin was smart for Taylor since he was roughly $50,000 richer, won more games in Florida, and had arguably the most underrated running back career in NFL history.
