George Russell wary of front row start » FirstSportz

Mercedes driver George Russell wants to win his first Formula 1 race today after securing pole position in qualifying Hungarian Grand Prix. Whether he will be able to do so is uncertain as reigning Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen and the Ferraris will do everything they can to defeat Mercedes.
On Saturday, the Mercedes driver impressively secured pole position. Nobody expected this result from Mercedes because Russell and his team-mate and seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton struggled to heat up their tires and find traction during free practice sessions. But in qualifying, they outperformed the top two teams.

“We don’t plan any defense and just drive off into the sunset. But I know the guys around me and even Max, they’re not going to make it easy for me.” said the 24-year-old British driver about his thoughts before heading to the main race of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Throughout this season, Mercedes has consistently had a faster race pace than the qualifying pace. For third place, the team often had to benefit from mistakes made by Ferrari and Red Bull Racing. Russell will have a hard time keeping the top teams behind.

“We have the feeling that we have a faster race car. This is undoubtedly a good spot where you need a good qualifying session, but it’s still a track where having a faster race car counts more than having a faster qualifying car. So if it’s a two or three stop race, you can’t defend, say, because the other cars can start early, they can start late and they find a way past.” concluded Russell.
