George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa begins filming

Filming has begun on the highly anticipated Furiosa, a spin-off of Mad Max: Fury Road.
Chris Hemsworth, one of the stars of the film, shared a post on social media saying, “A new journey in the Mad Max saga begins.” He is joined by Anya Taylor-Joy. The prequel film Mad Max is based on Charlize Theron’s character Emperor Furiosa from 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.
Miller calls the sequel “a saga” that will unfold over a 15-year period, unlike its predecessor, which spanned three days in its timeframe.
George Miller will direct, co-write and produce “Furiosa” with longtime producing partner Doug Mitchell.

Miller recently announced that he and composer Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie XL, will be collaborating again on the film score. Holkenborg scored “Fury Road”.
As previously reported in 2020, John Seale was set to come out of semi-retirement and work as the film’s cinematographer alongside Miller. Seale had told the New York Times “On Fury Road, I said to George, ‘If anyone else rings, I’m retired. If you call, we’ll have lunch.” And seven years later he rang the bell.” However, Hemsworth’s photo shows Simon Duggan stepping in as cinematographer on the film.
Costume designer Jenny Beavan returns as the film’s costume designer. Beavan won an Oscar for her work on Fury Road. Speak with diversity‘s Marc Malkin, Beavan said Taylor-Joy was hoping to shave her head just like Charlize Theron did for the first film. Beavan said: “She wants it, but George doesn’t want her to do it. So I don’t know if she wants it or not.”
The film is being produced by Miller’s own Australia-based banner, Kennedy Miller Mitchell, with Fury Road partner Warner Bros. Pictures.
