Genesis Betting and Invitation Preview

Xander Schauffele broke my heart again. For the second year in a row at Waste Management Phoenix Openand it felt like for the 50th time in my golf betting career, Schauffele slipped and almost won.

Now, we must dust ourselves off and get ready to bet on this week’s Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. The field is even stronger than last week’s Phoenix Open, with the likes of Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa making their PGA Tour 2022 debuts.

Here are the top 10 odds to win over WynnBET Sportsbook.

The Riviera Country Club is a 71-foot horizontal field measuring approximately 7,300 yards. This is one of the more challenging courses on the PGA Tour schedule, with lanes and green zones in regulation far below the Tour average.

The best way to describe this course, is that the running of the ball strikers has a unique change that requires aggressive play around the grass area. If there’s one type of golfer you want to avoid this week, it’s golfers like Viktor Hovland, who sometimes struggle with their chipping. The greens are hard to hit according to the rules, and even harder to get up and down when you miss them.

Precise dribbling strikers and strong short-players should be targeted this week.

Key stats for Genesis Invitational

Dustin Johnson +1600 (1 pc)

Dustin Johnson shows a lot of value this week, as he has a dominant history at the Riviera Country Club. He’s only played twice this PGA Tour season, but he finished T8 at the Asian Tour’s Saudi International two weeks ago, so it looks like he’s finishing up well.

It’s quite simple, no one has performed better than the DJ at the Riviera since 2009.

Johnson has finished in the top 10 in seven of his last eight starts at the Riviera, and the only time he didn’t finish in the top 10, he finished 16th. You’d be silly if not least trouble with the DJ this week.

Sungjae Im +3500 (0.5 units)

Sungjae Im has been off for a couple of weeks, which isn’t special for the top laner, who seems to play at almost every event on the Tour, but he’s back for this week’s big tournament. He had one win of the year, and he finished in the top 20 in six of his eight starts.

The most promising thing about his game this week is that he’s third on the Tour in strokes achieved: around the green area and fourth in strokes achieved: teeing off to green. Everyone seems to have forgotten about Im since he took a few weeks off, but the rest may have done him well. I’m ready to take him down to win this week’s Genesis Invitational.

Mackenzie Hughes +8000 (0.5 Units)

Mackenzie Hughes had an opening game at the Genesis Invitational last year, finishing in 32nd place. I think he can build on that performance this season, especially with his short game going. How it plays out at the end of the game. He is 19th in strokes achieved: green space and fourth in strokes achieved: put.

If he can find a consistent number with his iron, Hughes will be a stealthy dark horse. Never mind the Canadians on the Riviera.

Iain’s golf betting record in 2022 is 20-51-2 (-9.62 units). You can find Details here.
