Kyrgios had to face a tough test on Tuesday in the form of Italian youngster Jannik Sinner. The pair have never met on a tennis court, but the Australian has previously explained that Sinner had one of the most explosive skills he’s ever seen. When fans expected Kyrgios to just focus on his tennis and not engage in controversy, the Australian opted for the opposite. Kyrgios was seen arguing with referee Carlos Bernardes over sluggish court conditions during the first set.
After that, during the game, Nick Kyrgios received a game penalty for smashed his bat in anger as he continued an altercation with the referee Carlos Bernard. As a result of losing the first set, he started the second set with a collapse and was pursued by a court intruder who wanted to take a picture with the Australian after his outburst.

While Sinner served with a score of 4:4 in the first set, Kyrgios really got things rolling. Chair umpire Carlos Bernardes’ radio went off loud after the Italian blasted a serve 4-4, 40-15 that Kyrgios returned, breaking the point and forcing him to call a let. When the point was repeated Sinner hit an ace to win the gameKyrgios sarcastically thanked Bernardes before exploding.
He got angry and yelled at the referee “You should be fired on the spot. How is that possible? How is that possible! Fourth round of Miami, one of the biggest tournaments, and you guys just can’t do your job. It’s embarrassing, it’s embarrassing.”
After that, shouted the Australian into his courtside microphone Saying, “Get a new set of referees, these guys don’t know how to do shit! It’s a joke, he’s a joke! Get rid of every single stick and start over. I’ll run the sport, I could do a 100x better job, marketing, everything! You have no idea, none.”
The drama soon escalated
A Fan even rushed to the court to get a photo with Kyrgios, which prompted a quick response from tournament security. Nonetheless, Kyrgios’ code violations brought him one step closer to a default, but despite his repeated verbal attacks on Bernardes, that didn’t happen.
sinners, on the other hand remained controlled and calm to win the game 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 and advance to the quarterfinals of Miami. It is also the second high-profile case of abuse by Bernardes in 2022.
