Friends capsize boat on Swan River after failed ‘stunt’

A group of friends found themselves floundering in the Swan River after flipping their boat and being thrown into the drink over the weekend.

The young men reportedly broke away near the Old Swan Brewery around 7pm after attempting to use another boat’s wake to get some air.

A witness said they were riding on their ship’s hardtop roof when the accident happened.

Instead of landing directly on top, the friends were hurled into the water, where they “donated all their phones to the mighty Swan River.”

The friends were pictured in the moments after the accident holding on to the hull of their overturned boat.

“I noticed these guys were running after me and there were about six of them on the roof of the boat,” Wild West Charters owner Dave McDonald told 6PR.

“They drove over my wake and the center of gravity was too high and they rolled into the river at full speed.”

McDonald quickly flipped his charter to provide aid, unsure at first of how many had been dumped.

“I think they were in shock. They were trying to roll the boat back into the water and I was just trying to throw a life jacket at each of them,” McDonald said.

“They didn’t want it. All they worried about was saving their shoes and their phones.”

The McDonald’s crew stayed with the men until the water police arrived. Luckily, everyone involved was unharmed.

The image of the aftermath was uploaded to social media, where it drew a lot of attention.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the future leaders of tomorrow,” commented one person.
