Fresno State Bulldogs close to reaching deal to hire Jeff Tedford as football coach, sources say

State of Fresno Sources told ESPN on Tuesday an agreement was near to be reached to hire Jeff Tedford as the next football coach.
Final details of a deal are still being worked out but will be finalized soon, according to a source. Tedford, 60, coached Fresno State from 2017 to 2019 before health problems forced him to quit in December 2019.
Fresno State is looking to replace Kalen DeBoer, who recently left to become Washingtonof the head coach. DeBoer served as Fresno State’s offensive coordinator under Tedford in 2017 and 2018, and replaced him as head coach after the 2019 season.
Tedford led Fresno State to 22 wins in his first two seasons before the team went 4-8 in 2019. He hit 82-57 as Calhis coach from 2002 to 2012. Health problems also forced him to resign as Tampa Bay Buccaneers attack coordinator in 2014.
Fresno State also considers defensive coordinator William Inge, State of Sacramento coach Troy Taylor and others for the position following DeBoer’s departure.
Yahoo! Sports newspaper first reported that the state of Fresno is signing a contract with Tedford.
